He’s back! In this episode of Carnage, Turbo Taxi heads to Sydney Dragway in pursuit of a 10sec pass

You’ve heard right, Turbo Taxi is back! The car that started this whole Carnage venture is still here, and the goal is also still the same: running a 10-second ET using LPG fuel.

It has been two years since we last raced the car, and when we did that, it destroyed yet another Barra at Heathcote Park Raceway on its one and only run that day.

Since then, Scotty has built a fresh motor with aftermarket rods and pistons, capable of taking a stack more boost. However, quarter-mile drag racing in Victoria is going through a bit of a rough patch, so Scotty decided to tow the Taxi up to Sydney Dragway behind a Ford Ranger to have a crack at running a 10 there.

On the first pass at Sydney, the car was hiccupping halfway down the track, with a safety in the Haltech ECU kicking in. Scotty broke out the laptop to chase the issue in the datalogging, but couldn’t find a root cause beyond a MAP sensor error causing an overboost.

The boost control problems persisted throughout the night, with Scotty unable to find a solution at the track. As if that wasn’t bad enough, a big oildown on track significantly reduced the run time.

The final run of the night was much the same deal, the car choking down the track with no ET worthy of talking about.

The suspicion is that the MAC boost control valve is causing dramas, making it a hardware rather than software issue. Scotty dragged the car back down to Melbourne, intent on fixing the problem.

It’s getting short on time before the Christmas break though, so it might be tight to get this thing down a strip again before stumps – but if we do, you’ll see it right here on Carnage.
