We’re getting down to the finer details in this turbo 1UZ-powered Lexcen wagon project, which has been a massive undertaking thus far.
One big hurdle that Scotty has been wrestling with is the engine harness. If you watched last week’s episode of Carnage, you’ll already know the 1UZ will be using a Haltech Elite 2000 ECU, and Scotty has been making his own harness from a universal Haltech unterminated loom. It has been some hard yakka, but the job was made so much easier using the Haltech wiring and tools.
This episode has Scotty pretty much finishing that process, sorting the coil-on-plug conversion and all the injector connections, along with a few other odds and ends. He’s been using Haltech’s wiring pliers, crimpers and heat shrink kit, all quality gear that makes a job like this less painful.
We also delve into the process of getting the Trolvo’s Turbo 400 ’box converted and ready to use behind the 1UZ. Scotty did initially plan to use the original Toyota A340 auto, but soon realised a turbo 4.0-litre V8 would probably grenade it pretty quickly.
The TH400 was put together by Simon (aka Gonzo) from AllFast Converters in WA, and he’ll be taking the ’box back again to get it ready for duties behind the 1UZ. We’ve provided a 1UZ-compatible bellhousing and adapter to suit, so Gonzo will mate that to the gearbox and also spec us a sweet new converter.
In the meantime, we’ll get the 1UZ back in the car and plumbed up, and when the transmission comes back to us in Melbourne in a few weeks’ time, we can slot this thing in and finally hear it run for the first time! Until then, enjoy this week’s Carnage episode below.
