THINGS have been relatively quiet on the Trolvo front over the past several weeks. Between Turbo Taxi’s lack of cooperation and the usual Carnage tomfoolery, Scotty and the gang haven’t had a lot of time to tackle the Swedish brick.
Trolvo is our 1983 Volvo 240, bought as an unfinished project with an ex-Toyota Soarer twin-turbo 1JZ bumping around in the engine bay. Previous Carnage episodes featuring the car have followed us bolting up plenty of new and existing parts, and then trying (in vain) to fire it up.
Scotty was initially keen to sort out the included Toyota loom and ECU to get the car running, but Trolvo’s electrics were soon established to be a bird’s nest-like basket case and the idea was turfed.
Fortunately, our mates at Haltech came to the rescue with their Elite 2000 ECU and harness kit to match. However, this meant we had to yank out plenty of brittle and mangled engine and transmission wiring, encountering some bodywork that was questionable even by Carnage standards. A half-cut hole in the firewall necessitated some tight welding manoeuvres. Results weren’t exactly concours-level, but as the pundits say: ‘A grinder and paint makes you the welder you ain’t.’
As per Carnage tradition, hurdles have continued to crop up at the eleventh hour. This time it’s the need for a new fuel rail to suit our injector and harness set-up. In the meantime, Scotty and Kian will be getting stuck into some other odd Trolvo jobs, but rest assured that the multinational missile is closer to life than ever!
