Ah, Turbo Taxi. The car that started Carnage enjoyed pretty decent success in its initial chase of a 10-second pass on LPG, but since it ran 11.01 and killed an engine in the process, it has depleted Melbourne’s supply of green-top (LPG) Barras dramatically.

The Taxi’s most recent engine died from a boost spike issue during its one and only run at the track. That torched a head gasket and the head, so once again, a new mill was needed.

Luckily, Scotty had a spare aspirated short-block lying around, so it will form the base of the Taxi’s last hurrah with LPG. Whether it runs a 10 or blows up trying, this will be its last crack at going quick on barbecue fuel.

This episode sees Scotty tackle the early stages of the engine throw-together. The FG short-block had its rotating assembly pulled out, with the weak aspo rods and pistons literally thrown in the bin.

The crank was in good nick, so it stayed. The rods are getting replaced with aftermarket goodness, and the pistons we’re using are Ford turbo items that Maxx Performance’s Zane Heath sourced for us.

With the engine down to a bare block, Scotty gave it one of his signature hone jobs. He chucked some new bearings in for the crank, and then gapped the piston rings to suit upwards of 25psi of boost.

The next episode will see the engine build continue, so give the latest one a watch below, and let us know how keen you are to see the Taxi ride again!
