THIS weekend, Meguiar’s MotorEx returns to Melbourne Showgrounds, and it is going to be a big ’un. This will be the first event run under the new owners and the first time the good folks from SEMA will play an official role as well.
We’ve dialled up our involvement this year, too. For starters, we’ll have a trade stand in the Street Elite Pavilion – right beside where the covers come off the latest and greatest show cars on Saturday morning during the House Of Kolor Inauguration. We’ll have the Carnage MX5.7 on display, so come down and say g’day! We’d love to meet you and hear your thoughts about what we are doing in the mag, online and with Carnage.
On top of that, we’ve got a Hall Of Fame display to celebrate 30 years of the Street Machine Of The Year award. We’ll have the reigning Valvoline SMOTY title-holder and 13 other winners, finalists and flat-out legendary cars in attendance. They’ll be rubbing shoulders with a bunch of sporting and entertainment legends and their cars, including Barry Hall, Alan Moffat, Sam Newman and Andrew Daddo.
The Hall Of Fame is located beside the Street Elite Pavilion and opposite the Meguair’s Superstars Hall. And by some strange coincidence, the Hall Of Fame also contains the only licensed bar in the whole joint. Which has got nothing to do with us, of course…
We’re pretty stoked with the quality of cars that are participating in our display, which includes three spectacular survivors from days gone by – including John Zeigler’s legendary HJ Holden ute. Thanks to everyone involved, namely:
- Danny Papa – 1977 Ford Falcon XC coupe
- Gary Myers – Blown 1972 Ford Falcon XA coupe
- Tanny Spiteri – Big-block 1972 Holden HQ Statesman
- Brendan Cherry – Twin-turbo 1968 Holden HK Monaro
- Peter Fitzpatrick – Twin-turbo 1959 Holden FC Special sedan
- Nathan Booth – 2015 SMOTY-winning HR Holden
- Leigh Haintz – Blown 1970 Holden HG Monaro
- John Zeigler – Sorcerer Holden HJ ute
- Steve Bezzina – Two seven-second Ford XW streeters
- Joel Lambert – 441ci Nelson Racing engines-powered Holden HG Monaro
- Rob Velkovski – Nissan GTR-powered Holden LX Torana
