A big part of last year’s revamp of Meguiar’s MotorEx, presented by LMCT+, was the addition of Portelli World, put together by LMCT+ founder Adrian Portelli.

The man isn’t shy about his love of cool and exotic cars, nor is he afraid to get some of them out to share with the public. For this year’s MotorEx, as well as having a selection of his finest personal rides on display, Adrian also invited others to throw their own cars into the mix.

Combine some incredible automobiles with a live DJ banging out tunes, an indoor bar, and a Mustang fastback giveaway drawn at the event, and it’s not hard to see why Portelli World was packed out on both days. We took a wander and picked a handful of our favourite cars from the showcase.

This is no replica! HRT chassis 028 was driven by none other than Peter Brock, Craig Lowndes, Win Percy, Allan Grice and Brad Jones. Starting life as a VN, this car finished second at Bathurst for 1991, before being given the VP look you see here. In this form, the car again finished runner-up at Bathurst 1994, driven by Lowndes and Jones.

So, yes, this is the car Lowndes went around the outside of John Bowe with at turn two of Bathurst all those years ago. At MotorEx, it was fresh out of a restoration by Gavin Strongman and Luke Williams, and was by far one of the most historically significant cars in the place.
Last year, Adrian’s personal Koenigsegg Jesko took pride of place in Portelli World. So, how do you outdo your own super-limited, one-of-only-two-in-the-country hypercar? Well, you invite the only other one in the country, of course!

Even with Adrian not shy about using his naked carbon Jesko around Melbourne, seeing one of the limited 125-worldwide units is a fair stab, but two is something else. The Jesko is powered by a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, and even on pump fuel rather than E85, it produces 1280hp!
It was great to see TOXICQ in the metal again, looking as fresh as when we first featured it back in our October 2014 issue. Built by elite chopper builder Lou Ackovski, the big-block stunner is no stranger to the streets. Our photographer Shaun Tanner says he often sees it out and about while doing the Friday night kebab run.

Ever since its groundbreaking debut at Street Machine Summernats 34 in the hands of Jovan Batar, the PRO GTS big-block HK Monaro has been a serious head-turner. It’s now owned by Victorian Matt McIntosh, who has been getting the HK out and about at all sorts of events, including the recent Bright Rod Run.

Mitchel Hawkins’s VR ClubSport tribute was a mould-breaker when it was unveiled at MotorEx 12 months ago, sending tongues wagging at the event and long afterwards online. It was great to see the turbo LS-powered machine back this year, and with its striking colour combination, it was a perfect fit for Portelli World.

Adrian has already flagged that he has big plans to make MotorEx’s 25th-anniversary event next year something we’ll never forget, so this may just be the beginning of what Portelli World will bring to the show.
