Adelaide’s off-street drag racers turned out in force at Dragway at the Bend on the weekend, with some old favourites and some never-raced before stunners turning out to put on a show.

“This was the best street meet we’ve had the The Bend so far and it should only get better” says pro street stalwart Adrian Portaro. “There were over 100 cars and it really felt like the good old days at AIR.”

Check out a few of our faves below and a cool video by Blake Evans! Thanks to Adrian for the images and info.

Bill Pana, XT GT Falcon

This was Bill’s first time out in the GT, which runs World Man ‘O War-based Windsor stroked to 438-cubes, with Trick Flow High Port 240 heads, a hydraulic roller cam, Glidden intake, 1050 Pro Systems Dominator carby for 655hp and 580lb/ft.

Backing the Windsor is a manualised C4, with a 4500rpm stall and Strange 9in with Trutrac. Bill ran a best of 11-flat, but is aiming to get well into the 10s and has got the bug!

Steve Peters, XY Fairmont

Steve’s twin-turbo XY is chasing the eight-second zone, but struggled for traction on the day. The XY runs a basic 402ci Windsor, with twin 67mm Garrett turbos, Vipec V88 turbo, TH400 box and a 9in for a best so far of 9.1 at 150mph at HPR.

Chris Gobbis, 1965 Cortina

It was the first time at the track for Chris’s sweet little Cortina. Powered by a little 302, it ran a best of 11.5-seconds.

Sav, 1968 Camaro

Sav’s fully-engineered Camaro made it’s first trip down the quarter. The car ran a best of 10.7 with a few changes planned before the next outing.

Tommy Jurkovic, 1957 Chev

Tommy’s ‘The Wanderer’ Chev is a certified Adelaide icon. Powered by a BBC, it was running 10.7s

Billy Papas, VH Charger

Billy’s Charger was running a bit off its usual nine-second pace, but was hooking up well with some 1.38 60ft times and impressive wheelstands. Check out our full feature here.

Lisa Frankcom

Lisa Frankcom raced the Evans Racing N/A 13B powered Mazda RX3 for the first , running a best of 15.3. Lisa’s dad Nick also had his first time out, running a best of 12.1-secs in his stick shift, SBC-powered HQ Monaro that he has owned since he was 19!
