AS THE rain clouds gathered and lightning flashed, Steve Nogas hit the Avalon Speedway pad like a master with his KILLA-B Camaro, taking home the first place $10,000 cheque at The Ultimate Burnout Challenge #7.
But the event wasn’t without drama. It’s been a tough few years for the UBC crew and the weather gods continued to be unkind. The initial event date of February 14th was a total wash out. Not to be deterred, the organisers tried again a week later, and with the temps in the mid-to-high 30s, it was starting to look like they were on a winner.
Unfortunately the rain came down hard around 3.30pm and again 45 minutes later. At that point only half the field had competed so the officials decided to give whoever was left one run and the results would be decided purely on qualifying burnouts with no finals.
That saw Nogas and his Camaro take the win ahead of Craig Whiddett in the CUTSIK VK Commodore, with Ryan Pearson completing the top three in his flat black HOLDON HT Premier. Hopefully the rain stays away next year! And the heavy hitters don’t get much of a rest, with the Lardner Park Motorfest coming up on 7-8 March.
