Meguiar’s MotorEx, one of the Aussie car show calendar’s biggest gigs, will return to the Melbourne Showgrounds on May 4-5.

The big news is that Cam Waters will be debuting his long-awaited XB Falcon project. Cam won’t be there himself, as he’ll be racing a NASCAR Truck in the US, but the Rides by Kam crew will be on hand to officiate.

If that wasn’t enough both Pat’s Pro Restos and Southern Rod & Custom all have new cars ready to rock, alongside some iconic names from the golden age of street machining, including Ron Barclay, Phil Rillotta and Troy Hillier!

Almost 20 cars will be revealed, with plenty of familiar faces gracing the Owen Webb-curated list. “We’ve got a really diverse range of cars for the unveils, which I’m really excited for,” he says. “We’ve got hot rods, pro street, new age stuff and some really cool bikes, so it’s one I’m really looking forward to, and it is great to see so many famous names back again. I’ve been doing this for a long time, so it’s great to see these blokes back building top-level stuff for our shows.”

The trader hall will also be in full swing, with plenty of our mates including Haltech, Bluewire, Tuff Mounts and Hare & Forbes putting on some great displays. VPW Australia will have our own Grimace VS Commodore ute on their stand, the first time it’ll be seen publicly. So, if you want to see the Carnage project in all its glory, swing by and say g’day!

Outside, we’ll be trawling the Real Street display that’s always chockers with proper street cars, and the MPW dyno cell will be spinning up big horsepower numbers all day. The Drift Cadet crew will do showcases and drift ride-alongs, while the burnout demos also returning; Matt Watts, Jayke Mathieson, Russ Harris and Jake Gillie will show the unacquainted how much fun torturing tyres can be. 1. 1. Troy Hillier is an iconic builder who is famous for fast Fords, but this time around he’ll be debuting a vehicle with a certain three-pointed star on the bonnet. Troy and his brother Clayton have been flat out building world-class hearses from their Tenterfield headquarters for the last couple of decades, so it will be great to see their name attached to a street machine once more.

2. One highlight of the show will be the long-awaited rebirth of what might be Australia’s most-iconic pro streeter – Phil Rillotta’s PRO ST1 LC Torana, alongside another tough Torry out of Phil’s workshop.

3. We featured Bob Grambau’s tough EH back in the April/May 1982 issue! Bob still has the EH and is set to debut a sweet ’33 coupe at MotorEx.

4: Check out our latest Carnage project, Grimace, sure to be the quickest-ever project car in Street Machine history! Find it on the VPW Stand in the Performance Garage building.

5: Then there’s the 1967 Camaro from 1991 SMOTY winner Ron Barclay. Ron doesn’t build a stack of cars for himself, but when he does, they are something else. Ron had the Camaro on show in the build stage last year, and we can’t wait to see the finished product.

6. And to top it off, no less than Jim and Mike Ring of Ringbrothers will be attending the event to meet, greet and hand out some great awards!
