Meguiar’s MotorEx hits Melbourne Showgrounds this weekend! It will be a big couple of days with a lot to see, hear and smell. To help you focus your visit, we’ve put together the ten show features we’re most pumped for. Plus you can scroll down the end for the full program.

KILLER UNVEILS

  1. We’ve already given you a bit of an idea of just how epic the Glasurit Inauguration will be, with legends including Phil Rillotta, Ron Barclay, Bob Gambau and Troy Hillier all pulling the covers off some very special rides. Supercar driver Cam Waters’s XC coupe will also cop its first public viewing and we’ll see new builds out of Pat’s Pro Restos and Southern Rod and Custom. Plus another dozen or so killer cars. Phew! The inauguration kicks off at 11am on Saturday.

SKIDS!

There will be three Pro Burnout demos per day, with the likes of Peter Grmusa, Glenn Eastwood, Russ Harris, Jake Gillie and more putting on a show for the crowd.

MAXIMUM WATTS

Living legend Matt Watts is also debuting a new build, but it won’t be just sitting pretty, he’ll be christening it on the burnout pad both days. Matt has built some very cool cars for a relatively young bloke, including his blown red motor-powered BLO 202 LJ, his super-sweet HQ ute, a Drag Challenge-proven LX Torana hatch and his BLO UP Corolla. But this latest build has an important story behind it and we reckon it will be Matt’s proudest achievement yet.

THE RING BROTHERS

Yep, you heard us right! Legendary US car builders Mike and Jim Ring will be making their first trip to MotorEx. The lads will be on hand to meet, greet and present a stunning, hand-fabbed trophy to the winner of Ringbrothers Choice award.

You can meet the guys at from 2.30-3pm Saturday and Sunday in the Glasuirt Inauguration Pavillion

EDUCATION

Educational workshops are a big part of the annual SEMA Show (not to mention in the early days of Summernats) and this year MotorEX are bringing the concept back with a workshop by renowned coach builder, Brian Tanti. The theme is ‘car building and restoration in the digital age,’ with Brian diving into topics such as 3D printing, engineering, product development and marketing. Brian has an incredible resume, not least being his many years of work at the Fox Museum. Check out his Facebook page to see what he has on the go in the workshop right now.

You can catch Brian at 1.30pm on Saturday and 1.00pm Sunday in the Inauguration Pavilion.

SHUT THE GATE, MAXY!

The MFP Owners Club will have a killer selection of Mad Max replica cars and bikes on show, complete with an awesome display.

ACTION APLENTY!

MotorEx is much more than a massive static show, there is always plenty of action throughout the weekend. For starters, we’ve go the Drift Cadet crew will also be doing three shows (and passenger rides!) per day, with Mercurial Mouse in her 350Z and Gary Reid in his Repco C10 joining in on the fun.

Add to that the MPW Performance Horsepower Heroes dyno, three daily FMX shows and the Real Street Ignite Parade (both days from 3.30pm) and that is a heck of a lot of movement to gawk at!

COVER CARS GALORE!

Stepping into both the Superstars Pavilion and the Street Machine Show Pavilion will be like walking through the pages of Street Machine, with stacks of recent SM feature and cover cars on display. We’re talking about the likes of Joe Bauer’s Dodge, Younan and Eddie Khazi’s gorgeous XE Fairmont Ghia and Peter Lewis’s BOSS XC, just for starters. And on our own Street Machine stand, you can check out Heath van der Waerden’s LX hatch and Steve Holland’s crazy, WRX-powered Mini. Come say g’day!

CARNAGE X 2

Scotty will have two Carnage projects on display at the VPW stand in the Performance Garage pavilion. First up, we have the Flexcen – our turbo 1UZ-powered Toyota Lexcen that surprised us all with a great showing at the Optima Ultimate Street Car event at Calder earlier this month. Secondly, we’ll have the first public appearance of our Grimace ute – a super-tough VS Commodore ute running a twin-turbo 427ci LS.

EBAY PERFORMANCE GARAGE

Performance Garage is Australia’s own mini-SEMA, with stacks of cool products and some super-tough street, strip and circuit beasts.
