On the hunt for a classic on the cheap? Then check out this week’s Grays classic car auction, with plenty on offer to suit all automotive tastes.

Our first pick is this VK Commodore. It looks like a toughie on the outside, but it’s still your stocko six-pot SL under the skin. Why is that good? With the paint and bodykit already done, all you have to do is strap in your favourite V8 and off you go! It’s also being offered with no reserve, so given the increasing values of these early Commodores in recent years, you may walk away with a bargain. Check it out here.

Our next pick is also a six-cylinder Holden, and she looks like a gem. It’s a top-line Premier that appears to be in excellent condition, so all you’d need is some club plates and you’ve got yourself one sweet little weekend cruiser. See the listing here.

The next offering that caught our eye is this 1968 Ford Galaxie 500. She’s a bit rough around the edges, and we’d highly recommend an inspection, but it could be another sweet weekend cruiser, especially with that 390-cube V8 up front. See more photos here.

Another early Commodore is this 1980 example, done up as a tribute to the Kmart Group C car raced in the 1984 Bathurst 1000 by Allan Jones and Warren Cullen. The 308 in the engine bay features a mild cam and is backed by a T5 gearbox, and those Simmons hoops are a whopping 17×10! See the full listing here.

The boss fancies this next pearler, a 1999 Ford LTD (so basically an AU) that’s been stretched into a limousine! She’s a V8 too, and with no reserve and a top bid of only $1009 at the time of writing, it could be the perfect base for a Summernats/Rockynats cruiser. Check out the full listing here.

Love your 80s nostalgia? Then it won’t get much better than this Subaru Vortex XT Turbo 4WD – just check out that interior! You also get pop-up headlights, 4WD with diff lock, and one of the coolest manual shift knobs we’ve ever seen. See the full listing here.

Our last pick is another Japanese nostalgia machine, this 1981 Datsun Stanza modified for rally! These, along with the 1600, were the dirt-cheap rally weapon of choice back in the day. Prices, rarity and rust means the days of paddock-bashing and rallying old Datsuns are long gone, so to find one like this in 2025 is pretty cool. It’s also up with no reserve and sitting at just $409 as we type, so it could prove a cheap way to get into a club rally racer of years gone by! Check it out here.
