Got your tax back and looking for a neat way to send off that extra cash in style? Then check out the latest crop of options at this week’s Grays classic car auction.
All the lots below are live now, closing Tuesday evening 19 August. You can view the full catalogue right here.
If you love your Valiants then you’re in luck, as we’ve picked two 70s machines to sink your teeth into. The first is a 1975 VK Valiant Regal project, with V8 power, jellybeans mags and classic ‘purple Valiant’ duco.

The next is a slightly earlier 1972 VH Chrysler Valiant Ranger, long before the name was associated with tailgating tradies. This is one a Hemi six deal, with three-on-the-three shifting.

Fancy a first-gen Commodore with good ol’ thongslapper power? Then suss this 1978 VB, a factory 253 car that’d make a great starting point for someone looking for a HDT-esque machine on the cheap. See it here.

With the XR6 Turbo the hero powertrain of choice for BA to FG Falcons, it’s made the somewhat-maligned V8 siblings good buying in the last couple of years. While the outside of this one could use some love, she’s a manual, which is a great box to have behind these Boss V8s when you open them up. Teamed with a live axle rear end, it makes for good fun. See it here.

The warmer weather is right around the corner, and it’s even easier to pitch a new purchase to the other half if you pretend it’s mostly for them. A drop top is the perfect way to do so, and atleast here in Australia, you’ll probably be one of the few burling around in a C4 Corvette. See this one here.

An oddball pick for us, but for a car that should be appreciated, is this 1991 GQ Patrol. They sold a boatload and a half of these here in their 10 year run, but even so, it’s bloody hard to find one as standard and untouched as this one all these years later. She’s a carby TB42 auto, looking to be converted to LPG as many did back in the day. If you’re in the market for a time capsule GQ without a Monster Energy sticker, see it here.

Our last pick is a forgotten sleeper classic in the making, so we recommend grabbing one now. Known as the ST overseas, these hot three door Mk5 Fiesta’s were re-badged here as an XR4. With a sporty body kit, optional racing stripes and making around 150hp from the aspo 2.0-litre four pot, they’re a heck of a lot of fun for the money. See it here.
