Features
Gorgeous, glossing spreads on the most beautiful and hardcore modified cars that Australia’s custom scene has to offer.
The Draggin’ Coupe
The latest Street Machine Hot Rod contains a story on a fascinating piece of Aussie custom history – the tale of the Draggin' Coupe.
Fast Glass
CORVETTE. Probably everyone’s favourite dream car — at least their favourite American dream.
Found – Mystic Illusions
ONE of the most popular Ford vans of the panel van era was Doug and Janette Cundy’s Mystic Illusions XY.
The Street Machine Files: Von Ryan’s express
Listening to Dave Ryan tell the story about his GTO’s past, one immediately conjures up images of a Dukes of Hazzard clone car.
In pics: Goodbye Ford Falcon
Proudly built in Australia since 1960, the last Ford Falcon is scheduled to roll off the production line in 2016. Falcons have graced no less than 107 out of 300 Street Machine covers.
TURBO 376-CUBE LS-POWERED FORD CAPRI
ONE of the standout cars of the recent Pro Street Shootout at Sydney Dragway was the X275 radial car of Elvio Gonzales.
The Street Machine Files – Injection is nice!
THESE V8-powered early model Holdens are not short-term projects. Take for example, Victor Reilly’s candy apple red FC.
Street Machine Files – Lindsay Gunston’s blown HQ
IF you’re going to build a street freak then you should build a real street freak. No candy-arsing around man, if you want to shock the plebs on the main street then go for it. Push the boundaries, take it to the limit.
Street Machine Files – Mark Handel’s 1965 Chev
IT didn’t take 23-year-old Mark Handel as long to construct his ’65 Chevy SS couple, only 3 years in fact. Big block power was the order of the day for Mark, the 427 rat has been overbored slightly to displace 435 cubes and, like Horsman’s mouse, reads like a who’s who in the speed industry.
I will survive!
The Aussie custom scene of the 1960s was a bit like the dinosaurs – immensely popular in their heyday, then quickly wiped out leaving little evidence of their existence.
TAILSPIN
ADAM and Kylie Perry’s Tail Spin is a back-to-front, wild custom FB Holden based on a design Steve Vesperman did for Street Machine back in Jan/Feb ’94.
The draggin’ coupe history
The 21st Early Holden Federation Nationals were held in Bathurst in the dying days of 2012. The star debut was John Trunzo’s FJ coupe, originally built by Ian Bradley and made famous in the 1960s by Lance Simmers as the Draggin' Coupe.
Made in Australia
JUSTIN Hills has debuted his wild 1960 Dodge Phoenix at the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, California.
The year in fire
2012 has been a big year for spectacular fires in Street Machine. On the drag strip, the burnout pad and in photoshoots, we've seen some spectacular action. Enjoy!
Goliath!
PAUL Bennet is one of the greats of our sport and this month we feature his great creation yet – a 1958 Borgward Goliath station wagon.
Shell Shocked
AWESOME wide-body 1968 Mustang built from a brand-new body
Carroll Shelby tribute
THE July issue of Street Machine is one sale now and features a tribute to the late, great Carroll Shelby.
V8 NIKI!
WHENEVER someone runs a list of the worst-ever cars, the FSM Niki usually makes it. Built in Poland and sold in Australia in the early 90s, it featured a 650cc, two-cylinder air cooled engine, which made just 17.7kW.
Street Machine: Bionic Build
ANY Street Machine Of The Year award is a top accolade. This earth-shattering Chevy Nova scored the Goodguys SMOTY title in 2011 and if you don’t know, that’s American so it’s a pretty big deal.
Street Machine: Mini Mack
FREEZING cold winters mean that the show season in New Zealand is a tad shorter than we are used to in Oz, but what the Kiwi street scene lacks in quantity, it sure makes up for with quality.
