FREEZING cold winters mean that the show season in New Zealand is a tad shorter than we are used to in Oz, but what the Kiwi street scene lacks in quantity, it sure makes up for with quality.
One of our favourites is the Kumeu Classic Car and Hot Rod Festival, which was held for the 18th time in late January. Kumeu doesn’t have any driving events, but instead it has a bucket load of really interesting cars and an intoxicating party atmosphere. Each year, we find truckload of new builds – some sexy, some eccentric and others that are simply frightening.
One that fits into the two latter categories is Al ‘Mad Geordie’ Sutton’s Mini Mack. Just one of many kooky Mini-based creations in Al’s shed, the Mini Mack sits on top of a Mazda Titan truck chassis and drivetrain.
Future plans include adding a replica ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) to “Make a bigger statement.” For more of the same, check out the March issue of SM, on sale now!
