“I bought my ’68 Camaro SS online about a year ago, and I knew it’d need some tidying up.

“I got stuck into some minor rust and panel work, which was then high-filled and blocked down.
“My mate Jamie then sprayed the two-pack Baslac Matador Red paint, and it looks great! I then turned my attention to the fatty Chev.

“What sounded like solid lifters when I pulled the car off the trailer turned out to be a lunched flat-tappet cam and lifters, with metal shards through the oil system!



“So, Glenn at Blaze Performance in Currumbin fixed that mess, rebuilding it with Ross pistons, H-beam rods and a steel 427 crank.

“It now works out to be 445 cubes, with 10.5:1 comp, and it’s fed by an Edelbrock Torker II manifold and Holley 850 carby.

“The transmission is a Turbo 400, running back to a 12-bolt posi LSD rear end. It sits pretty on a set of Ridler 17×8 mags.

“At the time of writing, I’ve done a bit over 200 miles in her, and she’s a real joy to drive. I’ve just fitted some sticky 275/45R17 Pro Street Radials and headed out to Willowbank, where it ran low 12s all day.”
