IF THERE’S one person that’s not afraid to think outside the box, it’s Rod Hadfield. He likes to build his cars to a theme and usually it’s a theme that no one else has ever considered. He’s proven it once again with his latest creation, a 1948 Fiat Topolino powered by, of all things, a 527ci V12 from an American La France fire engine — which explains the ‘Fire Chief’ name and reddest of red paint jobs.
As with all of Rod’s builds, the quality is top notch and the engineering and thought that has gone into the build is immense. All up Rod reckons he spent about five years collecting parts, but the build itself took only two years. It’s a fascinating story, and Rod loves spinning a yarn.
