The weather has not been kind to car events in Sydney of late, and as the heavens opened on Grudge Kings at Sydney Dragway and racing ground to a halt, we took the opportunity to catch up with Pete Hamilton; owner of this rad Key Lime green VH Vacationer wagon.

Holden VH VacationerWe featured Pete’s wagon in the March 2016 issue of Street Machine, and since then he’s managed to coax a few extra tenths out of the car through basic set-up, weight reduction and refinement. Having run a bunch of bottom 10-second passes, he was busting keen to break into the single-digit zone at Grudge Kings until the rain spoiled his chances.

VH Vacationer Pete HamiltonPete is the proprietor of Profection Automotive in the ACT, and the wagon is his rolling business card. It runs a carby-fed, stock stroke LS2 with a hydraulic stick, and it punches above its weight with a very healthy PB of 10.01@132mph.

VH Vacationer engine bayThe transmission is a Powerglide, and since we last spoke, Pete has followed through on his promise to upgrade the Borg Warner rear end to nine-inch with revised gearing. But the defining feature is the Vacationer livery, which for many conjures memories of summer road trips from decades past.

VH Vacationer dragWhile a nine-second naturally aspirated pass is Pete’s immediate priority with the car, he did hint at the fact that it could be a prime candidate for a hit of giggle gas in the not-too-distant future. He’s had outstanding results with it to date, but the thing about fast cars is that they can always be made to go faster!
