FOR just about any Generation X kid with even the slightest amount of petrol in their veins, the Lamborghini Countach was one of the ultimate dream cars of the 1970s and 1980s.

Not only could they get as near-as-dammit to 300km/h off the showroom floor, but the Lambo looked so aggressive and outrageous that nothing Ferrari made could touch it, at least in the eyes of schoolkids around the world. They were also brutally expensive – AU$187,000 in 1984 – so all that pent-up adolescent automotive lust went unrequited for most.

But for those kids that grew up to be a bit handy – and perhaps a bit obsessed – various kit car manufacturers around the world offered DIY versions of Lamborghini’s finest.

And there is one up for grabs at Lloyds Auctions right now! There isn’t a lot of information about it, but it is powered by a twin-turbo Holden Ecotec V6, backed by an auto transmission.

The dashboard and steering wheel have been lifted from an FD Mazda RX-7. Comforts include power steering, air conditioning – very important for a car like this in Queensland – and a reversing camera. So in fact, it is entirely possible that the car is more driver-friendly than the real thing. Which, going by contemporary road tests, might not be hard to achieve.
