This episode of Carnage welcomes back our sleepy, 1UZ V8-swapped Toyota Lexcen wagon, as Scotty prepares it to run nines!

To date, the Lexcen’s PB is 10.31@136mph. It also completed Optima Ultimate Street Car last year with great success, so it’s a great all-rounder.

However, a major barrier to it running nines has been high intake air temps. Even with a big Proflow intercooler in the front of the thing, it’s an issue that’s plagued the car under full noise for a while.

The Haltech ECU keeps things safe when that happens by dialling back timing, but that also takes away the extra punch we need to crack a single-digit pass.

To combat that, in this episode, Scotty fits a nitrous spray bar to the Proflow intercooler. The idea is that he can hit a button on the Haltech CAN keypad during a run to spray nitrous across the intercooler and drop the intake air temps nice and low.

Fitting the bar was a fairly straightforward process; Scotty simply cable-tied it through the fins on the intercooler. He then rigged up a spare NOS solenoid we had in the workshop, and hey presto – nitrous available at the touch of a button to cool everything down in an instant.

Will it work? We’ll find out in an upcoming episode of Carnage, when Scotty will head to the track to try and crack that nine. Keep an eye out for that soon!
