We’re back on the Drag Challenge ute in this episode of Carnage, as Scotty gets the beast ready for its first test hit at the drag strip.
Taking this V6, manual ute and turning it into a twin turbo, 427ci Dart LS behemoth has been a long, enduring 10 month build. That all culminated in a recent episode on the dyno at MPW Performance, where the ute chucked out 1128hp to the hubs on 20psi.
That was a conservative tune, but it’s more than enough to get us started at the drag strip. This week’s episode focuses on getting the final bits dialled before we hit the track, because you want to dot the Is and cross all the Ts with a build like this.
The first job was re-fitting the interior. A devout Carnage fan Brad helped us out with that, the same one who originally sourced our bench seat centre console to suit our Proflow ratchet shifter.
He sorted us out some new door trims to suit the taxi bars for our roll cage, as the speaker protrusions on VS door cards don’t suit. He chopped Scotty out by re-fitting the centre console, so massive props to him for giving us a hand.
While Brad did that, Scotty sorted a few fiddly jobs. The first was mounting our tailshaft speed sensor, which is used for data logging with the Haltech Nexus R5.
He also mounted out Proflow catch cans, which he chose to do in the back of the ute under the tub. Not only is there more space there, but putting them behind the rear tyres means we won’t get oil chucked infront of them at 170MPH if the worst is to happen.
Enjoy the new episode below, and get keen to see this thing hit the drag strip very soon!
