We were deeply saddened when we learned the National Holden Motor Museum was shutting shop in the Victorian town of Echuca. Following a huge auction, the museum closed its doors back in April of this year.

Today’s good news is that much of the collection will remain publicly visible on, having been thrown a lifeline at The Bunker Gallery in Coffs Harbour, NSW. Owned by local car dealership owner Geoff King, 25 cars and many other artefacts have become a permanent part of The Bunker’s collection.

King sourced the vehicles from the defunct Echuca museum, and they now cover the entire top floor of The Bunker. Assets stretch from the early 48-215 and right through Holden’s glory years, featuring Commodores, Kingswoods, Geminis and more.

There’s plenty of memorabilia to accompany the cars, much of it coming from Bathurst. There’s also a cinema section showcasing iconic Holden ads, concept cars, documentaries and more.

The closure of the Echuca museum marked the end of a four-decade run, and leaves the Trafalgar Holden Museum as the last of its kind in Victoria. The National Holden Museum began in the Melbourne suburb of Bayswater in 1983, relocating a number of times before settling in Echuca a decade later.

The Bunker’s Holden exhibit is now open. A ticket lets you see the inside of the WWII-era communications structure (hence the gallery’s name) and the National Cartoon Museum, which features around 25,000 authentic drawings from Aussie cartoonists.

To find and more and purchase tickets, head to The Bunker’s website. Adult entry is just $10, so it’s well worth the visit!
