Four-door and Raptor Mustangs shown to Ford dealers

A secret meeting with Ford’s US dealer network has revealed some exciting additions to the company’s Mustang line-up

News out of the US is indicating Ford is closer to a four-door Mustang than first thought, with dealers shown renderings in a recent secret meeting with Blue Oval heavyweights.

If true, it would be a landmark moment for the platform. Although a four-door Mustang has technically existed for some time with the electric Mach-E SUV, according to Automotive News, the new car would likely employ a stretched version of the new S650 chassis.

Unnamed dealer sources have jokingly referred to it as the Mach 4 (for four doors), much in the same way the ZB Commodore was called the NG (next generation) until its release.

In other big news, as well as a four-door, dealers were allegedly shown an offroad-capable version of the Mustang, with raised ride height and all-terrain tyres. Raptor Mustang, anyone?

Rounding out the new models, an RTR-tuned car with the four-cylinder EcoBoost motor and a hypo V8 version of the convertible were reportedly also shown. With the mighty GTD Mustang also coming out soon, all of a sudden the Mustang platform appears to be one of Ford’s most versatile.

The speculation around an expanded Mustang line-up seems believable, as Ford CEO Jim Farley stated back in May that the company’s flagship model could be made in “other Mustang body forms”.

The incoming S650 Mustang is still yet to be released in Australia, though examples have already been spotted in Ford dealers. We’ll bring you our driving impressions of the beast soon!
