Red CentreNATS 10: Pro Burnouts qualifying

After sweltering through a 37 degree day here in Alice Springs, the Red CentreNATS army marched out to Alice Springs Inland Dragway for the first time this weekend to witness some serious burnout action.

The open class burnouts were up first, with a bumper field contesting the still-hot conditions. Plenty of radiator overflows suffered as a result, the grippy pad also provided its challenges to those with more basic setups.

Once the sun had well and truly set, the headliner pro class qualifiers took to the pad in front of a packed crowd. 23 cars would be whittled down to just 10 for Sunday’s final, where a big fistful of cash and three Pro Burnout series tickets will be up for grabs.

The Pro Burnouts Series contenders had their fair share of casualties, the main one being Mark Siracusa’s ONIT LH Torana, suffering an engine bay fire that prematurely ended his run.

Ryan Lofts ORWHAT Commodore spluttered after the first tip in of his run, couldn’t restart and had to be pushed from the pad.

Those that did perform well were familiar faces to the burnout elite, including Ryan Pearson in HOLDON, who completely smoked out the cheering crowd at ASID.

Rob Cottrell in the XD Falcon 4DH8ERS and Warren Gersekowski in his 1TUFHG ute were both also tipped as front runners for the win, both putting on top level burnouts that should make for some really close competition come Sunday.

A full list of those who qualified for Sunday’s final can be found below, which will kick off from 2.45pm local time. Before that, those who missed out from last night will get a second wind in the Burnout Pro Ultimate Redemption Round, which will get underway from 2pm after the open class top 20 final.
