Grays’ classic car auctions are always full of variety, and this week’s offerings are no different. With classic Aussie muscle, new-school V8 grunt and a Japanese classic among the selections, there’s something for everyone!
Bidding on all cars is now live, closing Tuesday evening. So, if you see something you like, don’t sleep!
Our first pick is this genuine HG GTS Monaro, with stinkbug stance, HT grille, pumped guards, a Muncie four-speed and 327ci small-block. It’s in the original Verdoro Green, and unlike all those minty GTS replicas, this is a genuine one you wouldn’t be afraid to use. You can view it here.
Our next selection is another genuine Aussie muscle classic, an XA GT sedan. It comes with a plethora of documents detailing the car’s history, including its original build spec. The best part is that it’s being offered with no reserve, with bidding nudging a smidge over $75K as we write, with just over a day left. See it here.
Before we dive into some newer Aussie V8 heroes, we couldn’t pass up this minty Mazda RX-4, a neat, 13B-powered machine. It’s not often you see these 70s Mazdas in as nice a condition as this, and it’s also being auctioned with no reserve, with bidding around the $55,000 mark as we write. Check it out here.
This 1990 VN Commodore SS in Atlas Grey looks pretty fresh – perfect for those chasing a nice stocker for a collection or as good base to indulge some impure thoughts. It’s a Series II car with the power pack option (power windows, central locking and retractable antenna), and is showing 120,000km. With no reserve, bidding is up to $21K so far, which shows the market isn’t dead for V8 Commodores just yet. See the full listing here.
Right before the VE Commodore was launched, HSV said goodbye to the Z Series range with a limited run of special-edition ClubSports. Based on HSV’s motorsport efforts at the time, the run consisted of Holden Racing Team and Toll HSV Dealer Team editions. This Clubby is one of 50 Toll HSV cars, featuring a cosmetic package including decals and badging. The only performance gear on the Toll cars were special Pirelli tyres, gunmetal grey wheels and AP Racing brakes from the R8. This one has just 51,000km on the odo, making it perfect for a collector. Suss it out here.
Fancy some 60s American pro touring goodness? This ’64 Galaxie 500 would suit perfectly, still rocking left-hook drive and looking like a prime candidate for a weekend cruiser, or to hot rod to your liking. It’s said to still have the 289ci Ford V8, with a Holley carb on a Dominator intake manifold. Check out the listing here.
The last pick for this week is for the budget buyer, because tough times shouldn’t stop you from enjoying a classic car. With prices of the hero-model Torana generations (LJ, LH, LX, etc) through the roof, people have started to turn to the unloved UC to get their Torry fix. This one looks like a fairly honest girl, and at $5400 with no reserve, it could prove to be a cheap way into a 70s Torana. One to watch, we reckon! See it here.
