Australian wing General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) has announced the Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD will soon have even greater flexibility for heavy-duty towing, with a new ‘Genuine 5th Wheel Hitch’ option for MY26 Silverado 2500 HD NB2 variants to be made available to customers – which’ll enable a maximum braked towing capacity of 8000kg.

Available from Q3 this year, the new option gives buyers a choice of two specialised factory solutions – a 50mm Pin Coupling or a 3-inch Gooseball – allowing the selection of the setup best suited to their towing needs.

Both of the 5th Wheel Hitch solutions incorporate a factory air brake system that has been specifically designed, tested, and installed as an integrated package.

The package also includes hardware and functional upgrades designed to make towing easier and more practical, including a chassis structure and bed attachment plate, added trailer connectors at the front of the tub, trailer brake airlines and additional interior controls and warning lights.

Fitment of the 5th Wheel Hitch options will be completed locally as part of the right-hand-drive re-manufacturing process at GMSVs facility in Clayton, Melbourne. So, buyers can option the package right out of the box, rather than as a separate aftermarket-style add-on.

It is a practical, purpose-built solution that makes the Silverado 2500 HD even more capable for customers with specialised towing needs.”

The Genuine 5th Wheel Hitch options will be covered by GM’s five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.
