In the midst of hybrid this and EV that, GMSV has today reaffirmed its intention to bring the large, petrol-guzzling, V8-powered 2025 GMC Yukon SUV to Australia.
Just like the Silverado 1500, 2500 and special-order 3500, the Yukon will be re-manufactured to right-hand drive at GMSV’s factory in south-east Melbourne.
For Australia, the Yukon will only be offered in the top-tier Denali Premium trim. Based on the 2021 Chevy Tahoe architecture, the 2025 Yukon’s colossal size means enough room for seven seats, and touchscreens and luxury strewn throughout.
Adaptive air suspension, 22-inch wheels, massage seats, hands-free adaptive cruise and night vision cameras are also on the menu for the Denali Premium.
The big news we’re keen on is that Australian Yukons will get the 6.2-litre, L87 petrol V8 from the Silverado 1500, producing 313kW and 624Nm. It will be mated to a 10-speed automatic with all-wheel drive, making the Yukon a direct rival to the 300-series LandCruiser and outgoing Y62 Nissan Patrol.
GMSV is yet to confirm towing capabilities for the Australian model, but US-market cars can tow up to 8400lb (3810kg). That outdoes most dual-cab utes, but is down on the 4500kg rating of the Silverado 1500.
While we know the Yukon will be here in early 2025, we don’t yet know how much it’ll cost. GMSV will reveal that later, but in the US, the equivalent Denali has an MSRP of US$76,305. That converts to roughly AU$113,000, although that’s before import and RHD conversion costs.
We’ll update this story with local pricing as soon as those details come to hand.
