Thought the Australian muscle car boom was over? Think again.

Prices of classic Aussie hero cars don’t seem to be coming down any time soon, as is evident by the price of this this 1976 Ford Falcon XB GT, going up for sale through Australian Muscle Car Sales for $265,000.

Unrestored and unmolested, the Red Pepper GT has completed just 27,807km since it rolled off the production line, with its 351ci Cleveland V8 mated to a four-speed manual ‘box, sending power to the nine-inch limited-slip differential at the rear.

The matching numbers engine looks as if it was built yesterday, with Ford’s factory markings, hoses, leads, paint dabs and stickers all backing up its credentials – plus it allegedly starts first go every time.

According to the listing and the assembly line tag, the only factory option fitted to the GT was a Tu-tone Black bonnet, providing a tidy contrast to the bright red paintwork which remains untouched from how it was delivered, with no dents, marks or touch-ups to be seen.

A full set of original 14×6-inch 12 slotters are shod in Olympic ER70H14 G800 radial red wall tyres, all standard fit from the factory with next to no signs of ageing, as a full-size spare also resides in the boot.

Having been judged in many competitions including the 2011 Brisbane Falcon GT Nationals, this particular example has won awards such as Best Original, Best Undercarriage and Best Overall.

Delivered to B.S. Stillwell in Campbellfield, Victoria – the dealership owned by four-time Australian Drivers’ Championship winner, Bib Stillwell – a Mr AW Boyd of Christmas Hills was the car’s first owner.

Although the XB’s ownership has changed hands numerous times in its life, it retains its B.S. Stillwell dealer sticker in the back window.

Unqiue Cars editor Guy Allen said that if achieved, the $265k asking price would likely set a four-door XB GT record.

“Shannons sold an auto XA GT sedan for $148K late last year and a nice auto XB GT for $97K in their Spring auction.

“It’s obviously trading on the low miles and remarkable unrestored condition…it’s probably the only one of its kind out there and they might go close to getting it [$265k],” said Allen.
