IF you’re into old-school Ford muscle with a new-school twist, then this 427ci mill built by Paul Sant and the boys at ProFlo Performance should get your juices flowing. Why? Because it’ll be a 750hp, all-motor ‘Clevor’ (Cleveland heads, Windsor block) but with modern day luxuries like EFI and air conditioning, all packaged up within a stout XY Falcon street car.

First published in the August 2021 issue of Street Machine

“The owner came to us looking for a mean street engine and driveline for his XY, and having done a few Clevors like this before, it was a fairly easy package to put together,” says ProFlo owner Paul Sant.

Paul is a legend of the industry who is hands-on with everything that leaves the workshop. “I do all the engine machining in-house, and I obviously want to make sure everything we do is to the highest level, so I know everything that goes into these sorts of builds,” he says.

For this engine, Paul started with a Dart SHP block and added a Scat steel crank, Scat H-beam rods and JE pistons to equal 427 cubes and a comp ratio of 12.1:1. “427ci is a comfortable size for a build like this,” he says. “You can still get solid rpm out of it without needing to go crazy with a heap of cubes to get the big power numbers.”

Finishing off the bottom end is a wet-sump pan and a ProFlo custom-grind solid-roller stick, breathing through a pair of CHI Kaase C400 Cleveland heads up top that come in at 400cfm. “The reason we go with Cleveland heads rather than Windsor is they flow a lot more and there are a lot more options for parts, and it’s worked well on packages we’ve done before,” says Paul.

Topping off the whole deal is a CHI intake manifold, which will be wearing Holley Terminator EFI and sucking down 98 PULP. “We’re going with 98 and keeping it aspirated because it’ll suit the owner better for the street-car stuff he wants to do with the XY,” Paul says.

GO WITH THE ’FLO

PAUL Sant and the ProFlo crew have been responsible for some of the wildest cars and engine combos in the country. A blown 598ci big-block Chev and a 1000hp, 30psi turbo Barra built by them have featured in previous Mill Of The Month columns. We’ve run several full features on their builds too – one of the most memorable being a 940ci Sonny’s-powered LJ Torana (SM, Feb ’20) that debuted at Street Machine Summernats 33. These guys know horsepower!
