Frank Gullotto
Holden LC Torana

“My dad and I are getting this LC Torana built; it was his first car. It had sat dormant for 35 years, so we thought it was time to revitalise it for street and occasional hillclimb use, and the build has been going for two years so far.

“It now runs a 540hp Holden 355 V8, and a lot of work has gone into strengthening the chassis and body. It’s been mini-tubbed and given a United Speed Shop power steering front end, along with Vari Race brakes all ’round.

“It will also have plenty of custom styling touches, and a modernised interior with air con, a decent console and electronics. We’re planning to have it ready for Summernats 38.”

James Telley
Ford XW Fairmont

“I’m currently pulling apart my XW Fairmont to do the bodywork and paint. It has been in the family for 20 years, and I’m finally giving it a proper tidy-up!

“The factory 302 Windsor is a bit tired, so I have a hot 302W ready to go in. The interior will stay original, but the outside will be repainted in Toyota Camry three-layer pearl white, and hopefully it’ll get some Astro Supreme wheels.

“If funds permit, I’ll try and get it to Summernats 38!”

Jamie Guihot
Chrysler VF Valiant Regal

“I bought this little beauty from the old Trading Post. It’s a 1970 VF Valiant Regal that had been resprayed by the previous owner for the last ASMF Street Machine Nationals in Canberra in 1986, before it moved to Wagga.

“It won several awards, as it was a real stand-out at the time, with 16 speakers installed throughout the car.

“I sprayed it with Raptor and added beautiful high-gloss black trimmings. It runs a standard 225 slant-six, but I plan on turbocharging it later on!”

James Jordan
Holden VC Commodore SL/E

“This VC SL/E was bought for me by my dad when I was just six years old, which was 22 years ago!

“My dad and I did all the work on it ourselves in the shed. I decided three months ago that I wanted it back on the road for my wedding, so I sanded it back to bare metal, fixed any dents and rust that had come up over the past few years, and shaved the engine bay, including capping the chassis rails and smoothing the inner guards and firewall lip.

“It runs a fully built 202 with 60thou-over flat-top pistons, an XU-1 cam, roller rockers and triple Webers, backed by a five-speed manual and a shortened 3.73:1 LSD with 28-spline axles.

“It has been repainted in DeBeer 2K Amazon Mica over Atlantis Blue, but the interior is fully original, including the carpets. It rolls on HDT-style 19in Aero wheels.”

Benny Deacon
Holden VH Commodore

“This is my ’84-model VH Commodore, which I’m hoping to have running this year. Most of the work has been done by me and my mates in my home garage, including smoothing the engine bay.

“It’s going to run a rebuilt, injected Holden 304 V8 and 4L60E transmission, with Haltech engine management, but it’ll still look old-school with the Aeroflow throttlebody and intake manifold.

“I’ve got a few more things planned for it, including a set of XYZ coil-overs.”

Jarrad Bullock
Holden VL Calais

“My old man gave me this VL Calais as my first car when I was 16, and I’m now 32. It was a full nana-spec factory car, so of course I started pulling it to bits the first day I got it.

“My older brother gave me a Walkinshaw kit that he had lying around, and since then the build hasn’t stopped, with 90 per cent of the work done by me and my old man.

“It has had a full bare-metal respray and five different engines over the years, but it now runs a fuel-injected, forged 355 stroker Holden V8 with four-bolt mains, force-fed by an 8/71 TBS supercharger. A Haltech Elite 2500 ECU runs the show.

“Behind the mill is a T56 six-speed manual and a HiLux LSD with 31-spline axles. Brakes are 330mm discs with four-pot GT-R calipers, enclosed in classic 20in Simmons rims all ’round. It has a custom interior, too.

“Currently, the car is not running, but the build is finally in its last stages, and I’m planning to get it on the road this year!”

Ian Stewart
Holden LX Torana

“Here’s my 1977 LX Torana build, which now runs a 360ci Holden V8 with a COME billet crank and rods, Diamond pistons, VN heads, and a custom billet intake, force-fed by twin 62mm turbos. A TH400 and 9in diff round out the driveline.

“She rolls on Weld rims – 15×3.5s up front, and 15x11s out back clad in 275 rubber. I’ve done all the fabrication work myself in my back shed.”
