Jonathon Jones
Toyota Echo

“This is one of our current projects; we’re cramming a 3RZ engine, TR6060 gearbox and a HiLux diff into a tiny, two-door Toyota Echo!

“The plan is for the car to be 800hp of gear-rowing fun at roll racing and the drag strip. A Magnus Motorsports slipper solenoid will help with the launches, and we’re aiming for eight-second quarters.

“Everything is being sourced on a budget from Facebook Marketplace, much to the criticism of the boys! We have a few build videos up on the Tuna Racing TV YouTube channel.”

Thomas Bovalina
Ford XF Falcon ute

“My 1989 XF ute has had an XE front-end conversion and currently runs a BA Falcon gas Barra, a 7975 Pulsar turbo and a 6boost X-series Pro Mod manifold. It wears 15×10 Intensity rear wheels.

“I am taking on the challenge at 19 years old to do all the mechanical work, bodywork and engine building myself at home.

“My plan for the car is to take it to Drag Challenge and many other drag events.”

Jorja Pryor
Ford XG Falcon ute

“Here is my 1995 XG resto project. I bought the car for $500 in 2023 with a blown engine and no doors, but there was no rust in the body. I then bought an XH Falcon to combine the two into one, taking the interior and motor out of the XH to put into the XG.

“I will be painting it a nice Volkswagen dark black/purple pearl, with the dream of winning some car awards!

“Believe it or not, I used to be a Holden person, but my partner converted me, and now I own three Fords!”

Lincoln Walker
HZ Holden wagon

“I found my HZ wagon in a paddock in Kalbar, Queensland. With an awesome group of mates, we managed to get it up and running in nine weeks to get it to Powercruise, which was an awesome effort, considering I work away.

“Everything that could hold us up did, but we made it to Powercruise and destroyed tyres as planned! At that time, it ran an 8/71-blown 6.0L cast block backed by a Powerglide, but I recently got a 14/71 SSI blower off a Doorslammer and have it mounted to the LS.

“The 31-spline axles snapped, so it’s currently getting a 35-spline rear end upgrade to give us more track time. It’s going to be LOOSE AY, as the plates suggest!”

Connor Thompson
1937 Ford pick-up

“This ’37 Ford belonged to my grandfather, Roger Thompson, and he started the build on it, while I helped him everywhere I could, including doing most of the fab work.

“After he passed, I continued to push forward with the build in order to have it running and driving for my wedding, in his honour.

“It’s now fitted with a 283 Chev, TH350 trans, and an XR-XT Falcon diff in an L300 semi-elliptical rear end. Wheels are widened and re-centred 1935 Ford wires in fibreglass guards.”
