Brock Clark
Holden HK Kingswood ute

“Here is my HK Kingswood ute, which I’m building with my dad. I’ve had the car since I was 18 months old, and I’m now 17.

“The plan is for it to be a period, early-to-mid 80s-style street machine. So far, I’ve got a Mallory tacho and twin-point dizzy, Accel SuperCoil, 15×5 and 15×10 US Indy Mags, and a tunnel-rammed big-block Chev for the period parts.

“The mill is backed by a Powerglide ’box and a 9in diff. We want to run tall rubber on the back, tramp rods and some serious rake, as we hope to create a 10sec time bandit.

“It’s going to be a pretty mean streeter for a 17-year-old. I’m documenting the build on my Instagram account @bigblockhkute427.”

Adam Bourne
1969 Toyota Corolla

“I’ve got a KE16 1969 Toyota Corolla two-door wagon in the build.

“I bought it two years ago at Easter time as an enjoyable cruiser, and everywhere I go in it, I always get a thumbs-up.

“I’m currently in the middle of swapping a Hayabusa 1300cc engine into it.

“The goal is to keep it standard looking but be a nice, high-revving six-speed machine! I’m documenting the whole build on my YouTube channel, Cheesy Customs.”

Thomas Bovalina
Ford XF Falcon ute

“It’s been a while since I’ve given an update on my XF ute, so here it is! It’s finished being mini-tubbed, now with a shortened 9in sporting 31-spline Moser axles.

“The rear suspension uses Gazzard Racing split mono-leaf springs and sliders. It sits pretty on a set of Outlaw Drag wheels – 15×10 in the rear and a 17×4.5 in the front.

“The engine is a refreshed Barra wearing a G42-equivalent 7975 Pulsar turbo atop a 6boost Pro Mod exhaust manifold.

“On the cold side, it has a Custom Alloy Welding intake plenum. An 80L fuel cell has been mounted in the tray.

“There’s still a long way to go, but it’s getting there!”

Matthew Stead
1983 Toyota Corona

“My current long-term project is my ST141 Toyota Corona. It features a fully built 2JZGTR VVTi with a Turbosmart 7880 turbo, Plazmaman intake manifold and custom-made Pro Mod exhaust manifold, backed by a built 8HP50 eight-speed gearbox.

“I have a 9in floater rear end in the build for it as well, and we’re aiming for about 1200rwhp. It will be used for street, drag and roll racing.

“It’s been slow going, as work and life can get in the way, but I’m planning to have it done early-to-mid next year.

“I’m doing all the work myself, except for the engine build by my legend of a boss Kristian Goleby, and the 8HP ’box, which was built by GRT. The goal is for it to be a 7sec quarter-mile and 4sec eighth-mile street car, and to one day race at Drag Challenge.”

Samir El-Sayed
Holden VK Commodore

“This my ’85 VK, with looks inspired by the HDT SS. It has a 403ci LS that’s kitted with direct-port nitrous injection, controlled by a Haltech Elite 2500.

“The rest of the driveline uses a TH400 transmission and a Ford 9in diff. The car has been in the build for three years now and has undergone a full transformation.

“I spectated Drag Challenge this year and came home with a lot of inspiration. I am now looking to compete in the 2026 event with this car – it looks like so much fun! In the meantime, it will be raced at some street meets at Dragway at The Bend to tune and iron out any potential issues before the big challenge later this year.

“While I finish this one, I have my eyes open for a good-example HT Holden ute for another build.”

Robert Wright
Mazda RX-7

“I’m in the middle of the build of my 1986 Mazda FC RX-7, aiming to turn it into a tough street car.

“It’s a widebody car, tucking 20×12.5 wheels on the rear and 9.5in-wide wheels on the front. Underneath, it has custom painted suspension, trailing arms, and rear and front subframes.

“The car is currently being painted at Performance Paint & Panel in a custom Lamborghini teal with a pink and purple pearl through it.”
