THIS year’s Victorian Hot Rod Show was a pearler, featuring cars from all walks of life – everything from tough Monaros to crazy T-buckets. In the end there were a handful of cars that stood out with the judges, and it was Peter Elliot’s ’34 Ford tudor that took out the Top Street Rod award and the highest honour of being named Australia’s Coolest Ride.
In the Street Machine category Gary Scicluna’s ’78 Ford Escort (SM, Sep ’14) bagged the top prize, while Lou Ackovski’s TOXICQ (SM, Oct ’14) was named Best Street Machine Sedan and Joel Lambert’s Monaro Best Two-door Street Machine. Damien Horner’s wild VY Holden (SM, May ’15) picked up the gong for Best Street Machine Ute.
In the Show Car class, it was Steve Hopes’s ’68 Camaro with its incredible all-chrome motor that came first, ahead of Mal Apps’s FC Holden, which you’ll find on the cover of our new February ’16 mag. In the Radical Custom class, Rob Dickson’s 1950 Mercury placed first ahead of Les Sherry’s vision of the same model.
We had our video crew roaming around the show, so hit play to check out some of the highlights and winners from this year’s event.
