How good is this! From Brute Horsepower 2, we have coverage of the go-to-whoa competition at the very first Street Machine Summernats in 1988!

Local hero Peter Fitzpatrick came into the event as the winner of Go-to-Woah at the Street Machine Nationals in 1987, behind the wheel of his ‘Broomstick’ HK Holden Brougham.

The are a host of famous names to look out for in this video, including Mark Yardy in MY3080, Paul Beauchamp’s VL Calais, Owen Webb in the Wild Thing XY, Mick Turner’s wild blown Valiant Hardtop, Marty Brennan in MADNES, Greg Young’s ’67 Impala, Fast Freddy Cavasini’s PRO 034, Graeme Cowley’s HR ute, Mark Sgaravizzi’s 88NATS, George Anthony’s XB Falcon sedan, Barry Birt’s ‘Cat Killer’ Monaro and many more! It is super-cool to see and hear such legendary cars in action.

In the end, Lindsay Harrison’s Mazda RX-3 pipped Fitzy with a 7.743-second time to take out the very first Summernats Go-to-Whoa title.

You’ll also spot Liz Smith in her pink Ford Anglia, who won the Go-To-Whoa the next year at Summernats #2.
