From the Brute Horsepower VHS tapes we present highlights from Street Machine Summernats #2 in 1989. The video features some true legends on the mic, including Chic Henry, Ron Whelan and former Street Machine editor (and later Motor Trend supremo) Angus MacKenzie.
And the vid is chock-full of legendary cars in action, including John Cannon’s LX hatch, Ivan Hans’s MR HYDE LJ, Gary Satara’s OVAKIL coupe, Todd D’Elboux’s Gemini and many more.
Rob Beauchamp dominated the judging again in his Pro Street VL Calais, taking out Top Street Machine overall. Howard Astill was also making his presence felt, with his ‘Rock Solid’ XA Falcon scoring a swag of tinware including Top Engineering and Entrant’s Choice. He also gave the spear a spud a good shake, with none other than Mark Sanders wielding the spear. The sheepskin? Straight out of the pram!
Glenn Rogan won the burnout comp in his stunning XC ute, seeing off defending champ Greg Thompson and the soon-to-be-legendary combo of Chris Christou and his HO775. Future multiple Grand Champion Peter Fitzpatrick made the finals of the go-to-whoa in his Broomstick HK Brougham.
Liz Smith won the go-to-whoa in her Holden six-powered Ford Anglia.
