Highlights from the cool Equinox South West Indoor Motor Show in Busselton West Australia

LAST weekend we checked out the third annual Equinox South West Indoor Motor Show in Bussleton, Western Australia. For a car show held a solid two-and-a-half hours from the big smoke in a local primary school, it really brought out the high quality cars. Damien ‘Chubby’ Lowe, who had come across from Sydney to judge the event, couldn’t quite believe it either.

The key was there were three Superstars passes up for grabs for the three best cars, which would then be invited to Meguiar’s MotorEx in Sydney. Brandon Mitchell brought his insane 377ci blown and injected Chev-powered 2012 Camaro out for the weekend, and he even gave it a cruise on the street!

That’s right, event organiser Clinton Wall managed to secure 48-hour permits for the most highly modified cars at the show to cruise the streets of Bussleton for the weekend. Other toughies that got out on the public road included Rick Malone’s big turbo LS-powered VH Commodore and Mick Jury’s mean blown HQ one-tonner.

Alison and Gareth Lougher won the award for Best Street Machine with their seriously tidy SIXAPPEAL LH Torana, while Wayne Waller snagged Best Hot Rod with his three-window ’32 coupe as well as a Superstars pass to MotorEx. Joe Catalano also got a MotorEx ticket with his ’73 Dodge Dart and Greg Hogan got the third ticket with his killer pro touring Camaro.

Best custom went to Brandon Mitchell‘s bad-arse Camaro, Joe Foti won the People’s Choice award with his stunning ’57 Chevy, while the Entrants Choice award went to Greg Hogan’s Camaro. Other standouts from the total of 80 really high quality rides that attended included Clint DiGiovanni’s crazy Ford Capri and Kelvin May’s interesting hot rod-style HX panel van.

A total of 1700 people attended the Equinox South West Indoor Motor Show over the weekend, and we can see why – the cars were awesome and the vibe with cars like Brandon’s blown Camaro driving around was something else.
