One of the very many hot-car events that fell victim to COVID-19 restrictions this year was the Showcars Melbourne Father’s Day Car & Bike Show. Nevertheless, promoter Elvis Barbieri was able to secure an alternative date and the show went off without a hitch yesterday in the Melbourne beachside suburb of St Kilda.

The iconic Acland Street shopping strip was shut to traffic and trams for the day, with hundreds of hot streeters filling the streets, car parks and grass areas in the shade of Luna Park.

With live bands, DJs, kids activities and the general public thrown into the mix, the atmosphere was next level! Here are 10 cars that caught our eye.

Pro street legend Mick McGrath rocked up in this super-sano HQ GTS sedan, complete with a very tough aspirated LS under the bonnet.

Robbie Adamo’s Mitsubishi Scorpion is a mid-nine-second runner thanks to a Magnuson-blown LS combo.

Vince Padanis’s LJ Torana was featured back in the September 2012 mag, complete with a turbocharged 179 red motor under the bonnet, but he’s recently replaced the six-pot with LS power.

Greg Angus’s blown big-block ’57 Chev and Supercharged Outlaws Monaro both scored a killer power park at the top of Acland Street. The Monaro packs an 8/71-blown, 376ci small-block and runs in the sevens over the quarter.

We’re big fans of VN SS Commodores in Atlas Grey, but Todd Blazely’s example is next level! Mods include an LSA conversion and big brakes, and the car has been tubbed to the rails to accommodate the Momo Star rims.

It is always a treat to see Mat Budaj’s XY Falcon ute in the flesh. The car features a stack of subtle tricks, including deleted quarter-vent windows, shaved bumpers and personalised badges.

Justin Gauci’s KINGXR packs a Dart-blocked 347ci Windsor, assisted by a single GTX45 Garrett huffer.

There were a stack of tough Street Machine feature cars in attendance, including Huss Ayache’s 1000hp VL BT1 and Brandon Zito’s twin-turbo small block-powered LC. Brandon’s Torry joined the seven-second club at Drag Challenge 2019.

Zac Weiss’s RB30-powered LC is an old-school Melbourne tough street car that is looking as sharp as ever and will be heading back out to Heathcote soon.

Anthony’s LC GTR Torana replica is a stunning P-plate ride, with a 240ci Holden six, toppped by a J-Zed head and running triple throttlebodies with Fueltech ECU.

We didn’t manage to catch up with the owner of this HQ Monaro, but it got plenty of attention. Mods include a late-model interior, ghost GTS stripes and a blown V8 of some description!
