The twelfth Showcars Melbourne event hit Moonee Valley Racecourse on today, with perfect weather attracting big crowds. Promoted by Elvis Barbieri, the show is largley a static affair, but this year featured a fearsome cackle show by the Lamattina Top Fuel team.

A bunch of Meguiar’s Superstars invitations for MotorEx (6-7 May) were handed out at the event, one going to Craig McKenzie and his wild HR Holden ute. Others went to the ex-Mario Colalillo WILDCAD, Tim Martenstyn’s HK Monaro, Charlie Agius’s hot rod and Street Machine photographer Greg Foster and his custom 1961 Cadillac.

Heading up the unveils was Rob and Anita Dickson’s 1952 Ford COE. The whole build was done in Rob’s shed and features a full Ford driveline, including a staunch 351 Windsor. Pain is De Beer Verde Schietto, with leather trim by Shannon’s Auto Upholstry.

Another neat unveil car was Chris Borg’s HT van. Chris dragged the old girl out of a chook shed and has treated her to a stunning, yet restrainted birthay. Paint is Gundagai Grey, with slick twim and nicely-detailed 350/350 driveline.

We really dug Sash’s 242GT Volvo! Powered by an LS2 with a GTX45 turbo strapped to the side, Sash is aming for nines when he starts racing it.

Matt Cahoon’s XC is a toughie, with 950hp worth of TOCA goodness under the bonnet.

Check out the gallery for more! It is full of cool surprises, like this crazy-neat, V6-swapped Gemini.
