YEAR four of Street Machine Drag Challenge kicked off yesterday at Adelaide International Dragway, with racers travelling all over Australia to take part and prove their car’s mettle on the track and highway.

Drag Challenge is based almost entirely on Hot Rod Drag Week. Five days and five tracks, with all competitors having to drive their cars to each venue. Tow and support vehicles are verboten. Drag Challenge rewards not only pure speed, but also reliability and the ability to navigate country goat tracks. Trailer queens and one-shot wonders need not apply.

Day one overall leader is Mark Drew in the Crusty Torana, with a best of 8.262 at 169mph, closely followed by two-time winner Quentin Feast, Jarrod Wood and Adam Rogash.

That put Mark on top in Haltech Radial Blown and Jarrod in first spot in Turbosmart Outlaw Blown. Mark Clifford’s Mustang (9.265-seconds) scored first place in Tuff Mounts Outlaw Aspirated and Steven Micallef’s tonner (9.304-seconds) is out in front in Pacemaker Radial Aspirated. The fastest car in K&N Filters DYO is Randal Mortier’s VK, with a best of 10.147-seconds

Check out the video and we’ll have the results from day two shortly!
