Anna and Lee Povey debuted their wild Duramax-powered VL Commodore wagon at Street Machine Summernats 38 and the creative and highly-sanitary build blew our tiny minds.
For starters, the swap manages to give the impression that the VL swallowed the Duramax donk with ease, thanks to a comprehensive reworking of the engine’s externals. Ditching the factory transmission for an M&M lock-up Prod Mod Turbo 400 didn’t hurt either.
But for a car designed expressly for rigours of Drag Challenge competition, the build-quality and thought has gone into all aspects of the build are super-impressive. Just check out the metalwork in the engine bay and boot area alone if you need convincing of that. Or the trim!

And while Anna and Lee eboth njoy the car show game, they are all about driving and racing, as they’ve proved time and again with Lee’s well-travelled VL sedan.
With that in mind, Anna gave the wagon its competition debut at Rockynats in April, having a shot at the Rockynats Champion crown. The wagon took out a spot in the Street Top 20, as well as Top Post-1980 modified and Runner-Up in Top Interior.
With only a handful of miles on the odometer (including our video shoot!) and a couple of test launches at home in Mt Isa, Anna demonstrated the VL’s potential on the slippery Quay Street street surface during the drag component of the Champion chase. And did herself proud in the slalom/go-to-whoa.

After a quick clean up, Anna and Lee took the VL to Meguiar’s MotorEx in Melbourne earlier this month, where the VL won 3rd Top Engineered in Street Elite – no mean feat with the likes of Rob Fekete’s F-100 in the mix.
Next? Let’s just say we’re pumped to see how the VL goes when it hits a fully-prepped drag strip. Can’t wait!
