AFTER five brutal days of drag racing and over 1000 road miles in 35-degree heat and up to 80 per-cent humidity, Hot Rod Drag Week 2016 is over for another year. All but one of the five Aussie teams made it right through to the end, a massive achievement by all. Jeff Lutz took the overall win in his Mad Max 1969 Camaro, with an average of 6.191-seconds at 240mph.
Of course, there is a lot more to drag week than Mr Lutz and five teams of rowdy Aussies. There were 347 teams all up, including some super-cool cars from Europe. We’ll bring you more on some of our favourites over the next week, but for now, you can enjoy Scotty’s final video highlights package from this year’s event.
A big shout-out to Scott, Nathan Jacobs and Povi Pullinen, who teamed up to deliver the video, words and photos we’ve brought you over the last week. Keep an eye out for their feature on the event in the December issue of SM, it will be a cracker! Today the boys had a few hours off to bang off a few thousand rounds at the local shooting range, checked out some crazy tractor pull action and indulged in some killer BBQ. Thanks also to the team from Hot Rod Magazine for their generous hospitality.
And if you are experiencing post-Drag Week withdrawal, you can find comfort that Street Machine Drag Challenge is going to kick off in under a month’s time. While we won’t see any six-second Pro Mods racing, you will see over 100 of the toughest street cars on Australian soil duking it out. Be there!
