YENKO is a name that has a lot of history with fast old school Chevys. Yenko Chevrolet was a Chevy dealer in Pennsylvania which became famous for swapping 450hp 427ci big-blocks from the Corvette into Camaros, creating the Yenko Super Camaro.
The dealership closed in the early 1980s and now original sixties Yenko Camaros are some of the most collectible muscle cars in the world.
The name has reappeared on a number of aftermarket late model speciality Chevy products over the years and the most recent one is this – the 2019 Yenko/SC Corvette Stage II. Built by Speciality Vehicle Engineering, it’s based on a brand new Corvette Grandsport which has been supercharged to the tune of 1000hp and 875lb-ft of torque.
To create the Yenko, SVE start with the standard naturally aspirated 6.2-litre LT1 V8, increase the capacity to 6.8-litres and add in bigger forged pistons, a forged crank, tougher rods, plus stronger main and head studs. They ditch the factory cylinder heads for a set of CNC ported LT4 cylinder heads from the supercharged Corvette Z06 and top the whole deal off with a 2.9-litre supercharger.
As you would expect it also comes with a larger fuel system, better flowing exhaust and bigger throttle body too. All of this American muscle can be ordered from a regular Chevy dealership and comes with a three year or 36,000 mile warranty on all the bits that SVE modify.
All up it will set you back a cool $68,995 USD, on top of the price of regular Corvette. But wait, there’s more – if you want the automatic version that’s $77,995 USD plus vehicle cost because the ‘box has stronger internals. SVE will build just 25 Yenko Stage I (825hp version for peasants) and II’s.
