For those who can’t get enough Mad Max in their life, websit Giant Freaking Robot has broken the news that Warner Brothers have a TV show based on the franchise in development.

There are no other details about the project as yet, so we don’t know to what extent George Miller will be involved, where in the timeline the series will be placed, or who will be acting in it.

What we can tell you is that this isn’t the first time a TV series based on Mad Max has been attempted by Warner Brothers. In fact, the gave the idea a good shake in the mid 1990s, even taking about an advert in Variety mag in 1995 to build some hype.

The project got as far as George Miller working for former 21 Jump Street showrunner Eric Blakeney. According to Screenrant, Miller was excited by the prospect of bringing the Mad Max universe into a long-form TV show, but was ultimately put-off by the idea of having to pander to the creative limitations of working on the small screen. No doubt, the current streaming era offers creatives a lot more flexibility to bring their visions to life.

So what will the new series bring? Personally, I’d love to see it set just before the orginal film, all grimy 70s urban landscapes and battered muscle cars. That’s just speculation of course, the options presented by the Mad Max universe are almost endless.

In the meantime, we’re pumped to see Furiosa, which lobs May 23, 2024.
