If you’ve been keeping up with Scotty’s latest escapades with our VN Berlina dubbed Supermang, then you’d know its new engine has gone well beyond testing his patience.
The trial and error of getting the new 4.2-litre stroker L67 V6 to work has been bloody arduous, to say the least. First, a clearance issue with the conrods to the camshaft meant the engine had to be torn down and fixed. Then, once it was finally in, it had zero oil pressure.

To get to the bottom of that problem, the engine had to come out yet again, and that’s when Scotty found he’d accidentally installed the oil pressure relief valve in the front cover the wrong way around. We’d somehow managed to avoid engine damage though, which was a major relief.

So, in this episode, Scotty gets the supercharged V6 back together correctly and in the car. Before hitting the key, he shows us the neat way he primes the engine with oil before its first fire-up.
Without the luxury of a distributor shaft to help prime oil pressure, Scotty instead uses a modified Bunnings sprayer bottle with a tyre valve. Hook it up to the oil pressure switch hole, pressurise the bottle with air, and it then pushes oil into the engine without the need to rotate it.

With that done, Scotty hit the key – success! She had oil pressure right off the bat, so it’s now safe to run up on the dyno and see if the extra cubes have been worth all the trouble. Keep an eye out for that next week!
