This episode of Carnage is a real tale of so close but not quite, as our 1300rwhp, eight-second VS Commodore ute doesn’t quite make it home from Summernats.

Scotty’s goal was always an ambitious one, but as you’re about to find out, sometimes things happen you just can’t control. Having already made the 700km drive from south east Melbourne to Canberra successfully, Scotty had no reason to suspect it wouldn’t get home.

And if you missed last week’s episode, give it a watch right now! Grimace not only make a ripping 1362hp on the dyno, but finished third in the 8CYL Forced Induction class against some stiff competition.

The temperatures for the drive back down to Melbourne were far better than those coming up, but not long after crossing the border into Victoria, it all went pear shaped when the sump was damaged.

Scotty still isn’t quite sure what he hit, but it was enough to split the weld on the edge of the sump. He pulled into the services in Wallan, just north of Melbourne, to find a mess of oil all under the car.

With the engine unable to hold its own oil and the sump inaccessible to remove with the engine in the car, Wallan was where the utes journey came to an end for the ‘drive to Summernats, make 1000hp and drive home’ plan.

Pulling up 100km short of the end goal was a sour pill to swallow, but the fact that that car drove its way up there, made 1362hp and nearly drove home is a bloody solid effort.

Given the engine has to come out to fix the sump, Scotty is already scheming new ideas to make the most of the engine being out. He’s keen to throw some even beefier rods, pistons and crank into the Dart 427 to try and make it a consistent seven second machine, but let us know below what you think we should do with Grimace below.
