Our V8 Lexcen is back in this episode of Carnage, as we head to the dyno with it to do some experimenting with nitrous. Yep, we’re throwing nitrous on this thing!
However, we’re not funnelling the laughing gas into the turbo 1UZ the usual way, alongside the air and fuel. In a previous episode, Scotty put a spray bar on the intercooler, the idea being to spray the nitrous into the ’cooler to make it extra cold, which will hopefully cure the issue of high intake-air temps we have sometimes seen with this car.

With our sleepy Lexcen having already made over 700rwhp on the hub dyno at Street Machine Summernats and run a 10.31 quarter-mile, we’re hoping this little addition of nitrous will be enough to see the car into the nines.
However, because the car hadn’t been run up in anger for a while, Scotty did have to diagnose some ignition gremlins before we could send the thing properly. After a few dramas, ordering some proper coil packs seemed to cure the major issue, so it was time for some real power!

One uncontrollable factor was Melbourne’s bloody icy weather at this time of year, which, ironically enough, meant that the Lexcen was struggling to heat soak itself on the dyno. Not only that, but once it finally did work, we were barely seeing 3°C difference with the nitrous spray on the intercooler.

So, it would seem spraying nitrous the traditional way into the intake might be the way to go to cool the engine and make more power. However, while the nitrous spray bar was a bit of a bust, the Lexcen did still churn out a new PB power figure, as well as sending over 1000Nm of torque to the hubs! How much power, you ask?
