Let’s party: Rockynats 2024 preview

Rockynats #4 is ready to rock this long weekend

Share

Rockynats #4 takes over the Queensland city of Rockhampton this Easter long weekend. This will be my first time at the event and I’m pumped! Here’s just a few of the cars and people I’m looking forward to seeing:

AGRO TF

You may remember Darren Bromage taking out the Street Machine Summernats 29 Burnout Championship in SMOKINU back in 2016. His new car is a LS2-powered TF Rodeo dubbed AGROTF that he shares with his wife Haylea Robinson.

The crew-cab Rodeo was chosen so that the couple can cruise with their baby girl strapped in safely in the back. Naw!

Haylea had her first turn behind the wheel at Rockynats last year and is keen to have another lash. The couple will tow the TF all the way from Victoria, what a massive effort!

GREEN MEANIE

Chris Kaarsberg is a legend of the Aussie drag and drive scene in his green Torana SUB 12. Chris has owned the car for over 25 years, but in recent times has really hit his stride, regularly placing in the Top Ten at Drag Challenge, joining the Seven-Second Club and even beating Lizzy Musi in the Qld round of Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings v Australia.

Now he’s heading up north from his home in Warwick to check out Red Centre Nats. SUB 12 will be one to watch in the street racing events, but Chris will need to pay close attention to his power management if he has any hope of getting down the Quay Street surface.

CATCHING UP WITH NANA

One racer who has no dramas on Quay Street is Paul Butler and his super-sleeper, SR20-powered Holden Gemini. Paul is not only the current title holder of the Street Drags, but has plenty of wins on the Brisbane roll racing scene and took out the Oz Aid no-prep shootout in 2023.

Paul will have plenty of competition though, including two-time winner Shane Page in his tough VL Calais.

MISCHIEF MAKER

Tristan Lee-Madwick put on a great show at Rocknats last year and is back for more, having just given his MISCHIEF ute a nice glow-up. And yep, Tristan is bringing the car all the way from Victoria to entertain us all. Thanks, fella!

BAVERICK?

The boys from the Chunky Travellers YouTube channel have rebuilt the motor in their Barra-powered Ford Maverick and added an interesting-looking icebox to the front of the car. We’re keen to have a closer look at this set up and see how it goes on the pad.

Legends, Inc

Rockynats regular star attractions include Wal Gersekowski  in 1TUFHG, Leteisha Chun Tie in PARTYTIME, Jay Chun Tie in TINY TOWING and Mark Schwarch in HANFUL.
