Planes, Trains & Autos Festival returns to Ipswich, Queensland in April

Brisbane’s satellite town of Ipswich will resonate to the sound of angry engines at the second Planes, Trains & Autos Festival on 30 April

After a stellar debut last year, the Planes, Trains & Autos Festival will return to Ipswich, just west of Brisbane, on Saturday 30 April. The grounds of the city’s Workshops Rail Museum will play host to spectacular aerial stunt shows, airplane and locomotive displays, and, most importantly for us street machiners, more hot cars than you can poke a stick at.

Classics, muscle cars, drag cars, motorbikes and more will be on display for eager petrolheads to enjoy, as well as Defence Force and emergency services vehicles and some electric cars for the technophiles.

There’ll be plenty of action, too. As well as aerial displays by the Red Thunder Warbirds and Elite Helicopters, the festival will feature motorbike stunt shows from Stuntz Inc, followed by an onstage Q&A with action sports legend Matt Mingay and the rest of the Stuntz crew.

“The Workshops Rail Museum will be chock-a-block with passionate exhibitors sharing their love of all things rail, aviation and autos, while timeless aircraft take to the skies overhead for exhilarating formation flying and incredible manoeuvres,” said Ipswich Deputy Mayor Nicole Jonic. “Visitors and families can look forward to seeing Australia’s oldest working steam locomotive, muscle cars and motorcycles through the ages.”

With the Queensland Auto Spectacular happening at Willowbank Raceway the following day (Sunday, 1 May) complete with quarter-mile test-and-tune drags, a huge swap meet, car club displays and the Shannons Show & Shine, it all sounds like a great excuse for car nuts to make a weekend of it in Ipswich.

Tickets start at $5 for kids, with family passes from $20, with all proceeds going to the Legacy Club of Ipswich and the Queensland Museum Foundation. You’d best be quick off the mark, too, as last year’s event sold out in a matter of days! Grab your tix at
