Top Doorslammer racer Lisa Gregorini made headlines both in Australia and overseas at the NDRC season-opening Aeroflow Spring Nationals at Dragway at the Bend when she broke through for what is believed to be the first victory by an all-female drag racing team in professional drag racing history.
Now, Lisa and her husband and fellow competitor Daniel Gregorini are preparing to take on round two of the NDRC Top Doorslammer title chase at their home track of the Perth Motorplex as part of a great field of 13 ‘Slammer competitors, at the 50th annual Goldenstates (November 22/23).
“I am definitely feeling really happy and proud with what we achieved by winning the meeting in Adelaide – we have put a lot of hard work into getting to this point and all the hard work has paid off,” she said.
“Winning that meeting certainly means a lot. We copped a lot of criticism from when we first started out licensing for a number of different reasons, and winning this meeting means we have now stamped our mark and shown we have what it takes to compete with the best in the Doorslammer bracket.
“Heading into this weekend’s round two of the title chase, we are confident we have a consistent race car and that is all it comes down to sometimes. You don’t have to be the quickest or fastest on race day; as long as you are consistent, you can go rounds.”
Lisa was fourth in the NDRC Top Doorslammer title for the inaugural 2023/2024 season despite missing an event, and has her eyes on challenging for the big trophy this year.
“It is very early to make any predictions, but we can say we are running every meeting this season,” she said.
“Winning the championship would be amazing, but it is still only early into the season and there is a lot of tough competition in the class this season.
“You can never be too confident with the tough competition in the class when it comes to either race wins or titles – for instance, as far as going back to back this weekend, there are 12 other competitors entered for the Goldenstates and all of them are capable of taking the win.
“As long as we continue to be consistent, we can definitely be in with a chance.”
A win at the Goldenstates – one of the biggest events on the Perth Motorplex’s drag racing calendar – would also be very special for Lisa for another reason.
“Winning the Goldenstates would definitely be a high, and it would be our first competition win at our home track,” she explained.
In preparing for battle across November 22-23, the Gregorinis have undertaken a number of upgrades on her distinctive orange race car.
“We now have FuelTech in the car to run our auto shift. Unfortunately, we have been having a lot of problems with the other system we had in the car that was causing issues to skip gears and shift early which effects ETs and prevents us to make changes to the fuel system without causing engine damage,” she said.
“The new FuelTech auto shift will prevent this, meaning we can now make changes to the fuel system to run quicker ETs.
“Other than that we are going into this event like any other – just because we won the last meeting in Adelaide doesn’t mean we will do the same again and going into the race thinking that would just put a lot of pressure on myself and my team.”
As she prepares to take to the track this weekend, Lisa wanted to thank her sponsors and her crew for all of their support.
“Thank you to our major sponsors, Scratch and Match Autocolour, Consolidated Group, Oil and Energy Pty Ltd, Kerb Doctor, Westcoast Siteworks, S&S Industries, and Dalisa Estate Winery; and our supporting partners Applied Automotive Performance Engines, Signbiz WA, RACIN, JC Race Stuff, G-Force Race Cars, Resolution Racing Services Inc, Dirty Detailing, Final Drive Engineering, DMPE INC, and Kinetic Engineering.
“A big thank you also to Daniel, and both my crew and Daniel’s crew.
“I really hope we can see all the fans come out to the Motorplex for this event, it is going to be a great event – get your tickets at motorplex.com.au!”
The Goldenstates will host both round two of the NDRC Top Doorslammer and NDRC Top Fuel Motorcycle championships at the Perth Motorplex across November 22/23, while also giving sportsman racers the chance to earn valuable Aeroflow National Sportsman Championship points.
