The Godzilla-based Megazilla 2.0 and the Dark Horse Coyote V8 are Ford’s latest blown crate engines

If Ford’s fettled ‘Megazilla’ version of the 7.3-litre Godzilla V8 wasn’t enough, the company has just revealed details of a forthcoming factory-blown example of the pushrod leviathan.

Dubbed Megazilla 2.0, the new engine’s key difference to the previous Megazilla is the addition of a Gen 6, 3.0-litre Whipple supercharger. The original Megazilla was itself already a step up over the standard Godzilla, boasting upgraded, CNC-ported aluminium cylinder heads, 92mm throttlebody, Mahle forged pistons, Callies H-beam forged conrods, a production steel crankshaft, and a high-performance camshaft with VCT delete.

Ford says the Megazilla 2.0 carries over all these goodies but is “targeted to produce more than 1000 horsepower” thanks to the added blower.

In addition to the ’Zilla 2.0, Ford also launched another supercharged cratey, a factory-blown version of the Dark Horse 5.0-litre DOHC Coyote.

“We took the Mustang Dark Horse’s 5.0-litre Coyote engine and paired it with a 3.0-litre supercharger, a reprogrammed powertrain control module, and more,” Ford said in its press release. “The result is 800+ horsepower and targeting 615lb-ft of torque.”

Ford didn’t elaborate on the “and more” part of that quote, but it seems that, like the new Megazilla, the factory-blown Coyote is more or less the existing mill with a supercharger strapped on top – not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Unlike the competition-only ’Zilla 2.0, the Coyote comes with a two-year, 24,000-mile (38,000km) warranty.

There is no firm release date for either mill as yet, with Ford aiming to get them to market by the fourth quarter of this year. When they do become available, we expect local stockists, including Eagle Auto Parts and Herrod Performance, to offer the engines in Australia.
