IF YOU thought the 2014 VPW Drag Challenge looked like a blast, you’d be right, and we’re going to do it all again this year, bigger and better.
The first time around, we took some of the toughest real street cars in the country and convinced them to drive 1000km and race four days in a row. Most did over 2000km of road time and the quickest were in the eight-second zone. Everyone had a ball, and you can check out the results here.
THE COURSE
This year we want to do the whole thing in Victoria, during October. We’ll do five tracks in five days and around 1500km. It’s going to be huge, and the plan is to start and finish at the same track, so that long-distance travellers have somewhere to leave their tow rigs.
THE RULES
We’ll have four tyre classes (Radial, Radial Blown, Outlaw and Outlaw Blown), plus a DYO class.
The event is open to four-wheel vehicles of any year, make, or model. Current licence and registration are required, and we’ll need to see these before the event starts. No dealer plates allowed.
Vehicles in competition must have functional headlights, tail-lights, brake lights, turn signals, horn, and a rear-view mirror. Headlights must be of OE-type design. Vehicles that do not meet ANDRA safety rules for their ET and speed may be prevented from making further runs. Drivers quicker than 11.99 on the quarter must be ANDRA-licensed.
No support vehicles allowed! All vehicles must be driven under their own power during the entire Drag Challenge competition and may not be towed or trailered at any time. Each competition vehicle may tow a single-axle trailer no more than 180cm high from ground to top, including the height of anything carried on top. Trailers may not contain any components that contribute to cooling, charging, oiling, or fuelling the competition vehicle while the trailer is being towed.
Any type of fuel may be used, but if it’s something exotic you’ll have to find some way of carrying extra fuel safely. No fuel lines running from trailers.
All road rules must be adhered to at all times.
